Raw banana cutlet recipe – Ever since I moved to UK, ability to get spices, vegetables or food that you get in India is somewhat limited. I must admit that there are numerous asian stores (more so in London) where getting such asian grocery is more accessible.

Couple of weeks ago, my partner went to an asian store and bought raw bananas, and excited he was that he has got something new, something exciting, and he asked, “Can we make something tasty from it”?
Hummmm…I felt what to do with these raw bananas?! Oh yes, I thought I can make a dry curry of these bananas and I shared the thought with partner. He did not sound very excited about the idea, perhaps because I said it may taste close to that of a dry potato curry.

Btw this raw banana cutlet is vegan friendly recipe too.
To make banana cutlets, I had all the ingredients at home and so it was an easy task. I am sharing this easy recipe of raw banana cutlets in steps for someone who wishes to easily make at home.
Method to make banana cutlets
- First of all, pressure-cook the bananas for 10 minutes or 2 whistles of cooker with their peel on. Switch off the heat and let pressure release on its own.
- Once cooled, peel the skin and in a mixing bowl, mash the banana with a fork or masher
- Add mashed boiled potatoes, green chillies and all the spices to it and mix well to form a soft dough.
- Grease your hands with oil and shape cutlets out of the dough. You can give them any shape.
- Heat oil and fry them on low flame, turning occasionally until they are golden colour on both sides.
- Take them out on a kitchen towel and serve them hot with mint-coriander chutney.
This 30 mins recipe is neither complicated nor does it requires zillion of ingredients, all it needs is the desire to make it 🙂

Notes
- Don’t overcook the bananas as we want them to be soft and tender not mushy.
- You can shallow fry them too instead of deep frying (relatively healthy option, or best if you use Air fryer )
- You can make them for fasting as well. Just skip adding cornflour and spices. Add fasting flour like tapioca/buckwheat/chestnut etc and fasting spices like rock salt and black pepper powder instead.
- You can skip pressure cooking bananas too. Try adding grated raw bananas. The cutlets taste good this way too.
