Cancun…what images flash in your head? None? Or some exotic blue beaches? It’s only till 2016, I have not even heard of Cancun, till a colleague of mine said she was back from holiday in Cancun. Google has pics of cancun to take away the breath. Since then I dreamed of doing a family holiday in Cancun.
Considering Cancun is good 11hrs flight from London, I was not sure if I should take such long haul flight, especially now that we have a toddler in family. It was going to be a special event. It was going to be our 10th wedding anniversary. I decided to surprise Meenu by booking a week holiday in Cancun.

Choosing between Hyatt Ziva and Cancun Moon Palace
I wanted a lavish holiday, but at as low cost as possible. With two kids, its always good to fly direct. I was lucky to find a good deal with British Airways. But when it came to booking a hotel, after lots of research, I zeroed to Cancun Moon Palace and Hyatt Ziva. A friend of mine was getting discount at Moon palace, but I read that the have seaweed problem, and I love beaches, so does Meenu, so beach was not comprisable.
This meant we were going to stay in Ziva. I used various comparison sites to find best deal, and probably bagged one of the cheapest. Over all for the family of four, the flight and hotel were costing close to £5000, however this blog post is not about cost of stay, I will let you find deal using your best skills (of course can ping me if you need any help).
Getting to Hyatt Ziva from Cancun airport
Talking of the hotel now, after landing at the Cancun airport, Hyatt Ziva is about 25mins drive and you can take the cab from airport, which will cost about $45 one way or if booked return at the same time can be $75ish.
Check-in to the hotel was smooth, and porter helped us with the luggage to the room.

There was nothing exception in the room, it was decent sized for the family of two adults and two kids, had a balcony, which opened to the sea. Room was clean, and had all basic amenities, but nothing off the roof.
Room had a mini-bar too, which had soft drinks, beer and some snacks. Everything in minibar was free. I believe every room offers good view outside, considering the hotel itself is surrounded by sea from 3 sides.
Cancun Ziva Experience – All Inclusive
Now starts the good part, Ziva has 10 Dining venues and 7 bars, food is great and offers something for everyone’s taste, be it maxican, italian, asian, american. Bars are never shy off offering you drinks, including premium brands.
Best part was that the room service is free too, how cool!
One thing to note is that, do not forget to tip, tip to house cleaning, porter, waiters, bar man, and they will go extra mile.
There are three infinity pools and one worry I had was that if I will be only one with kids? No, there were numerous families with young kids. There is kids club too.
There are activities through out the day, be it sushi making class, yoga, water volleyball, or other activities. My daughter was glued to Pastels, a place which was offering sweets, candies, ice creams form 12 to 12.
There is a fitness centre, and micro-brewery too, apart from other water activities one can take part in (some were paid). There are dolphins in the resort, you can go and play with dolphins (at a charge).
Live Shows at Hyatt Ziva
There is a live show everyday for 1 hr (sometimes 2 hrs), which is world class. The show includes, Latin dance show, Vegas show, Street dance, Break dance, circus, etc. Some of the moves are absolutely breath taking.
Hyatt Ziva is nothing short of heaven as such, only if I could stay there for long. One key thing to note is that the checkout is 12, so you must take your stuff out of the room, but you can use resort facilities, including access to any restaurants! How cool!
