Til Ladoo Recipe – Happy new year all of you! Its 2020! I hope the year has kicked off positively for all of you. Thinking of January, reminded me of festivals in January and the foremost festival celebrated widely in India during January is “Makar Sankranti” or “Pongal” or “Lohri“, depending on where you are in india, you will be celebrating one of these. This reminded of the most common thing made in north Indian households during this festival, i.e. “Sesame Seeds Ladoo” or “Til ke Ladoo”.

What is Sesame Seed
Edible seeds from Sesame is called Sesame seed. These are grown mainly in Africa and to lesser extent in India. These seeds have rich nutty flavour but can be allergic to some.
Personally these sweetened balls (laddos) are one of my favourite as these have the distinct taste of sesame seeds and before you say, yes, these have calories too, but once in a while such indulgence is ok, right?
Some people even use these laddo during fasting (for religious purpose), as the ingredients are very basic and does not require to hunt items in kitchen cupboard.
Til Ladoo or Sesame Ladoo
There are normally two ways of making Til Ladoo.
- Til Gud Ladoo. These ladoos are made with sesame and jaggery.
- Til Khoya Ladoo. These ladoos are made with Til and Khoya.
I personally like the Til khoya ladoo, as these are softer and much tastier (personal choice).
It needs Sesame seeds, Sugar and Khoya/ Mava. If you do not have access to readymade Khoya at your place (or you prefer homemade), you can make khoya easily at home in minutes (almost instantly) using milk powder or ricotta cheese.
Procedure to make these Til / Sesame seeds laddo is absolutely simple, which includes roasting the sesame seeds, mixing with khoya and sugar, and finally giving a shape of laddo (or you can give any other desired shape, may be a rectangular like burfi/ fudge).

Method to make Til Ke Ladoo
- First of all, dry roast the sesame seeds for 5-7 minutes on medium heat. Cool down and coarsely grind the sesame seeds.
- Add grated khoya, sugar and cardamom powder to it and mix it properly.
- Take 2 tablespoon of mixture in your hand and roll it round to make laddoo. Make all laddos following the same process.
These Til Ke Ladoos Are:
- Easy to make
- Absolutely gluten free
- Super tasty (believe me)
- Good alternative to dessert
- Ready in less than 30 mins
Pro Tips
- Dry roast the sesame seeds on medium heat.
- Use instant khoya to make these ladoos to save time. You can prepare khoya ahead of these ladoos.
- Constantly stir the pan when you roast the seeds.
Storage and serving suggestion
You can store these Til / sesame ladoos in air tight container for 7-10 days. As these made from khoya, the shelf life is less than the “Til Gud” ladoos. Simply serve these til ladoos on Makar sankranti as sweet snack.
Below is the step by step recipe of making Makar Sankranti special Til or Sesame seeds Laddo.
