Degustabox Review – December 2020

Happy new year my friends and followers. Here is me back with review of new Degustabox. This is for the December box which I received on 15th December. You may wonder why it took me a while to publish the review of this December degustabox so far? It had been a festive season and though Christmas was much reduced to a lockdown in UK, I was busy ensuring I have gifts ready for all my loved ones.

What is Degustabox?

Degustabox is an online food subscription service in UK. Mostly ready to eat food items are delivered in a single box. Sometimes there are ingredients too to facilitate cooking.

Normal cost of of monthly subscription is £12.99, and normally contains 10-13 different types of products. Products vary widely, ranging from snacks, vegan, gluten-free, vegetarian, meat based, tea, coffee, alcoholic drinks, etc. The contents of box itself normally cost more than 1.5 times the cost of the box subscription.

Please note this review is for the brand ambassador box, which I received and the box which a normal subscriber gets will be little different. E.g. I may get all the variants of an item, while normal subscriber gets one of those.

So why Degusta box?

Degustabox is a food subscription service, with value for money, with no commitments. Monthly subscription is £12.99 and new member can use a code given below in this post, which knocks down the first month’s cost to £10.99. Products value normally supersedes the cost of subscription.

Degusta box delivery

Delivery of degusta box is done by a trusted fulfilment partner, i.e. DHL or similar. I was kept informed when the box will be delivered and I had choice to re-schedule the delivery too. December box delivery was done via DHL.

Detailed review of December 2020 box

This December degustabox was different from whole set of degustaboxes I have been receiving for months. This time degustabox has partnered with Sainsbury’s. All the products were from what you can find in Sainsbury’s.

Below is the summary of contents of the box, in no specific order.

Odysea Aubergine Meze Dip

If you love dips as much as I do, this dip will win you! Lovely smokey aroma of roasted aubergine and vegan friendly too. Reminded me of the taste of baingan bharta. Thoroughly enjoyed it with my cucumber and carrots sticks. Priced a £2.15 this is a great deal. I can only say good about this aubergine dip.

Leon Aioli

I love garlic and that’s no secret. You will see garlic in lots of my recipes. This garlic mayo was hearty find in the box. I used along side my chips and also experimented it with my curry. The bottle costs £2.50, which is good, though if I can get away with less, will be nicer. Yes, its vegan too.

Brave Chickpeas

In my box, I received sweet chilli flavour roasted chickpeas. I am not new to roasted chickpeas and normally use these as canapés with my drinks. However, finding sweet chilli version was new to me. These chickpeas were fresh and crunchy. My partner and I loved these and with the price tag of £1.00 I felt its alright. Again to note that these are vegan as well as naturally rich in fibre.

Dash Water – Peach

Zero calories, zero sugar, and zero sweetener, but nice refreshing taste. This is what sums up the sparking water from Dash Water. It had subtle hint of peach and I used it to mix with my drink and sort of make cocktail. The can costs £1.25 and I would think if there is a bulk buy option, these may be cheaper. Check them out.

The Curators – Cocao Caramel Peanuts

Do you like peanuts? As long as you do not have allergy to peanuts, you should try these great tasting peanuts. Gluten-free and fibre rich with decent protein, I am happy. My only problem was that these were far too less in the pouch. The pouch costs £1.20. I can not fault with the quality.

Clwb Tropica – Tropical IPA

A brilliant fruity Ale! The flavours of mangos, pineapples, peaches and passionfruit with nice zesty zing. TBH, I loved it. My hubby and I shared the sips from the can and were thrilled with the taste. No special words, just loved it! It costs £2.00 per can.

Pipers Crisps

I received two packs of crisps from Pipers. Wild thyme & rosemary and Cheddar & onion. Both brilliant, so crisp! My personal favourite was thyme & rosemary flavour. Great quality crisps to nibble when hungry or pair with drinks. 150g pack is sold at £2.50 and for 40g its £1.20. 40g was decent in size to make me happy.

Good Earth Teas

Woo Hoo!!! Great tea in the degustabox this time. As you know, I am very much a tea person and finding a quality tea always excited me. This herbal tea with ginger, turmeric and lemon is absolutely comforting. The pack contains 15 tea bags and costs £2.75. I am going to order some more for myself. These tea bags are biodegradable too, every little helps towards nature preservation.

Peter’s Yard Sourdough Bites

These baked sourdough bites are good to satiate the savoury desires. Suitable for vegetarians like me and under 100cals for a serving. Well, I am not complaining, but am all smiles. I loved the taste of these and had with my Indian style tea. The pack costs £2.00 which I will prefer to be little less.

Nexba Pineapple Soft Drink

I am huge fan of pina colada. The reason is that it contains pineapple. Normally at home when I have my vodka, I will be mixing it with pineapple juice. Hence, it was pleasant find to get pineapple soft drink in the degusta box. Great news is that, this soft drink does not contain sugar or artificial sweeteners, as well as is vegan. The bottle costs £1.25 for 1 litre, so why not swap with your normal cola?

Capsicana Mexican Tomato and Chiptole Tinga Cooking Paste

Do you like Mexican flavours? If so, then you won’t be disappointed with this. I made veg curry with this cooking paste, and then put in the tortilla wrap. Tasted nice! I like spicy food as well as smokey flavour, this paste offered both. The pack costs £1.20 and is good value in my view. I am looking forward to try more of these.

Tony’s Chocolonely

Finally something for my daughter. This flavourful chocolate was loved by Aadya (my daughter). Again, no fancy words, for me the test of a good chocolate is if she likes it and in this case, she liked it. The bar costs £1.35, which I felt little on higher side, but if my daughter likes it, then I am happy for this price.
