Kahani London Review

Kahani London – A Culinary Story Worth Telling

If you’re an Indian living in London, Kahani needs to be on your radar. It’s also a must-visit for anyone with a deep appreciation for elevated Indian cuisine. Nestled just a 5-minute walk from Sloane Square, this fine-dining gem is a must-visit. It blends modern flair with traditional Indian warmth. This offers a real “kahani” (story) that unfolds with every bite.

Why You Should Visit Kahani London

On the 13th of April, I had the joy of visiting Kahani on a special invite. My partner and our 6-year-old were in tow. This is proof that fine dining doesn’t always have to mean babysitters and grown-up-only outings. From the moment we stepped in, the vibe was welcoming yet refined. Whether you’re celebrating a milestone, or you’re simply craving exceptional Indian flavours in a luxe setting, this place is perfect. It ticks all the boxes.

A Little About Kahani London’s History

‘Kahani’ translates to ‘story’ in Hindi. Fittingly, Michelin-starred chef Peter Joseph opened this restaurant. His culinary journey from Chennai to London inspired this modern Indian dining destination. The idea is simple: to bring people together over good food, sharing plates, and heartfelt hospitality.

Getting There

If you know where Sloane Square is, you’re practically there already. It’s just a short 5-minute stroll from the station – so no excuses. Whether you’re dressing up for a date night, or pushing a buggy like us, it’s easy to find. It is accessible for all.

The Dining Experience – A Tale of Two Menus

Our little one had his own mini feast with soft, fluffy naan. He also enjoyed refreshing cucumber raita. These are classics that never go wrong. For us adults, it was the 6-course tasting menu: I opted for the vegetarian, and my partner chose the non-vegetarian.

Let me just say – wow. Each course felt like an edible chapter from a beautifully written book. There was a surprise pre-starter that set the tone. Every dish that followed was plated with elegance. They were packed with flavours that made us pause, smile, and say, “This is GOOD.”

The vegetarian menu featured seasonal vegetables. It included dainty chutneys and aromatic spices used just right. The flavors did not scream heat, but whispered complexity. The non-veg courses were equally spectacular (according to my partner, who was visibly reluctant to share bites). From succulent meats to delicately spiced sauces, it was a treat for all senses.

To end on a sweet note, we were offered dessert wine. This touch made the experience feel even more special. Let’s just say, we walked out with hearts and tummies full.

The Space – Cosy Yet Classy

The main seating area is downstairs – intimate, elegant, and perfect for slow meals and long conversations. If you’re planning a celebration or dining with a bigger group, there’s a special room on the ground floor. It offers privacy and that “VIP” feel. The interiors exhibit understated luxury. They feature soft lighting and plush seats. There is also enough space to not bump elbows while tackling your papad.

The Service – Warm as Homemade Chai

Akhil and his team truly made us feel at home. The service was attentive. They knew exactly when to explain a dish. They also knew when to let us enjoy the moment. It’s rare to find a team that’s both professional and genuinely warm – and Kahani nailed it.

What Makes Kahani Unique

In a city brimming with Indian restaurants, Kahani stands out for its thoughtful balance of tradition and innovation. The tasting menu is curated to offer variety without overwhelming the senses. It is Indian fine dining without the usual pomp or pretense. It’s also refreshingly family-friendly while maintaining that “special occasion” allure.

Final Thoughts – Will I Go Again?

Absolutely. If you’re an Indian expat missing home flavours, Kahani is the place to be. It’s also perfect for someone keen to explore Indian cuisine beyond the usual curries. It’s not just a restaurant – it’s a dining experience. One that leaves you smiling long after the last course.
