Finally tried an Air fryer and here is what I think about it

Majority of us do cooking at home, varying from cooking only a few times a week to daily cooking at home. We do so for various reasons, because its healthy to cook at home or its cheaper or convenient or all of these reasons. And if you are one like me who does regular cooking, you would likely be looking for appliances to ease your task of cooking. Unlike in old era when majority of people lived in joint families and had multiple hands to cook, now its largely left to oneself to manage cooking, that’s another reason we look for appliances to ease out our cooking task.

In last few years terms like electric pressure cooker and air fryer has gone viral, as these appliances claim to offer to retain taste and ease of cooking. I did not buy this hype, until recently when Aigostar contacted me to try out their air fryer and find out myself what I think. Little reluctant, I agreed to try the air fryer. Hence, I got the product using Amazon with a peace of mind that if I won’t like the product, I can return it.

I have been now using this Air fryer for last 3 weeks and this is what I feel about air fryer. Note that currently there is a promotion which knocks off £5.00 from the price till 25th Jan 2018 on this Air Fryer

But before that, what is actually an air fryer?

An air fryer is a small kitchen appliance, easy to place on counter and uses convection to circulate hot air (and sometimes oil if you add it) to cook the food. Sounds cool? But curiosity still remains can it really cook well? Will it taste same as normal cooking? Most models come in a two-litre to six-litre capacity and can range anywhere from £30 to £300 depending on the model. I tested this model from Aigostar with 4 litre capacity.

Does Air Fryer makes food healthier?

Healthy food” is another big buzz word and I am constantly looking for options to cook healthy meals and even my normal cooking contains relatively less oil. I have been striving hard to reduce oil contents and use oven where possible. So does air fryer food taste as good as normal food and that too without oil? I guess the answer is not really! It had mixed results. Some of food items taste same with no oil (like potato fries or chips), few things like potatoes and vegetable required little oil (may be same as I will use in oven).

What can I cook in Air fryer?

Not everything that you make on normal cooking can be made on air fryer, but there are host of things which you can make easily on air fryer. I say easily as its as easy as opening the tray, adding the content, adding oil if required, setting temperature and time, that is it!

See below, how I easily made these chips.

Simply added the chips/ fries in the tray. Set the temp and time.

Mid way during the cooking shake the tray for even results and that is it. I had crispy chunky chips ready in minutes.

You can make things like fries, roasted vegetables, chicken nuggets, whole chicken, other meat, fish, and many other snacks. You can try some of the recipes listed here

Final verdict? I was unsure of the air fryer to begin with. But now that I have one, I find myself reaching for it more often — and testing it has one made me curious (and excited) to see what lies next in the world of cooking delicious food. If you have a small kitchen, you may struggle to keep your toaster, kettle, grill and everything in the kitchen, so choose wisely which appliance do you need.

  1. I just got my air fryer and wanted to ask if frying French fries with it required oil thanks

  2. Hello thanks for sharing the review. I would like to understand if I have an OTG with convection then will it work same as an airfryer?

    1. Dear Karishma, I have never used OTG and hence I won’t be best suited to guide on that am afraid.

  3. I love my air fryer. I was so surprised how well it ‘fries’ food. Not everything can be cooked in it as you mention but it’s a great alternative for homemade fries and spring rolls etc when you want the crispness without all of the grease. Great review, thank you!

    1. Great to hear from you 🙂 I shall be sharing more of Air fryer recipes in near future. Let’s see if those recipes entice you to try out too 🙂

      1. That’s great to hear! I’ll look out for them. 🙂
